The Colonels Bucket team triumphed today in the extremely tough Umtata ITT in South Africa. Despite some great times being posted throughout the day, the real action occurred amongst the final few riders; with gifted climber Pim Geenkenaar of Burg Pro Cycling's top end performance making him favourite to clinch the event for his team. However, spectators where treated to a nail biting finish with Etienne Olemans fresh from his third place success in the Vorkula TT just failing to unsettle Geenkenaar from top spot by a matter of seconds. Step up Ed Hooiveld, who in only his second competitive appearance for Colonels Bucket turned out a real barnstormer of a ride, visibly giving his all and eventually snatching victory by a precious 5 seconds.
After the race Hooiveld dedicated the win to team manager Blazon who he said "had shown the vision and belief in my ability, offering me a great deal and career lifeline...now it's payback time!". Blazon was ecstatic with Ed's win, saying "I'm sure this is the first of many for Edward and as I said when I signed him, he has so much to offer this team". Blazon was equally thrilled with yet another strong showing from Etienne Olemans, saying "This is tremendous for Etienne. He is really impressing in training, completely stunned a lot of folks in Vorkula and now this...Can't say how pleased I am with his commitment right now!!"
So, as the team head to Thailand to compete in the Nong Chaeng GP, along with Blazon we'll be hoping for yet more heroics from Umtata's hero Ed Hooiveld!
